Welcome back following the Christmas Break and Happy New Year to the Mount Pleasant Family. I'm sure that 2017 will be a happy, healthy and productive year. The children have returned to school in smart uniform and are eager to learn. I look forward to working with you all over the next year and thank you in anticipation of your support. Our attendance target for the year 2016-17 is 96.8% and I'm glad to say that we are currently on track. Please support us by making sure your child attends school every day and holidays aren't taken in term time.

Nessy Learning Programme
Mount Pleasant Primary School has made changes to the way we teach spelling in Foundation Phase and Key Stage 2. The 'Nessy Learning Programme' is already in use around the authority and has been shown to be a highly effective way of improving reading, spelling and writing skills.
Here at Mount Pleasant Primary we are adopting this programme as our new spelling scheme, whilst also using it to improve standards in handwriting, reading and writing.
The programme has a cumulative structure of incremental lessons divided into bands. Each band is packed full of interactive resources and opportunities for revision and extension.
Spellings, activities and helpful rules will be sent home in order for you to support your child's learning.
Week 1 = Spellings to go home (Look, read, cover, write and check)
Week 2= Spelling test completed and a dictation introduced
Week 3 = Dictation test completed and new Spellings to go home following the introduction of the new letter sound/rule and meaning.
